Step 3: Install Terminus or Putty

Now we are going 'Headless', which means operating the device without a dedicated monitor, keyboard, or mouse connected to it. Before diving into the process, the first crucial step is to enable SSH on your Volumio device, as it is not enabled by default. This will allow for secure remote access to your Raspberry Pi.

1. Enable SSH on Volumio

  1. Open your web browser and navigate to the IP address of your Volumio device, appending /dev at the end. For example: [your Volumio's IP address]/dev

  2. This will take you to the 'DEV' page. Here, you'll find an option to enable SSH.

  3. Toggle the switch or check the box to activate SSH.

2

2. Download Terminus or PuTTY:

Terminus and Putty allow you to connect to the pi via the back door, they both do exactly the same thing but Terminus is slightly easier to use.

Download Terminus here: Download Termius for Windows

Go to the PuTTY website (www.putty.org) and download the PuTTY installer for your operating system. Choose the appropriate installer based on your system architecture (32-bit or 64-bit). (Don't worry if you choose the wrong one as your pc will let you know)

3. Configure Terminus or PuTTY for SSH connection:

These are almost the same to configure, we're going to go with Putty for this step.

Remember you wrote down the IP address of the raspberry pi? Well, you need it now.

In the PuTTY configuration window, enter the IP address of your Raspberry Pi running Volumio. And select open.

4. Enter login credentials:

If all goes well a little black screen should appear asking you to login, this means you entered the correct IP address of your Pi!!

When prompted, enter the login credentials for Volumio. By default, the username is "volumio" and the password is "volumio" (without the speech marks)
