Created Dec 23, 2024Managing Grading Components in Setting up the Gradebook System of VIAS Campus Management
After entering gradebook criteria and adding in assignments, an instructor can add components into the gradebook. Components create a rule that the average of a group of assignments must be at or higher then the average set. For example, the syllabus states students must have 70% average on all exams, using components in the gradebook can help the instructor progress monitor this rule as the student completes each exam. The Assignment report will also show the student how the rule is effecting the student overall average. The components rule WILL NOT override the final grade. The instructor will need to manually enter the final grade at the end of the course section.
Now the Components rule is displayed within the gradebook. The average of the component rule will appear in the column for each student. Instructors will monitor the rule as the course progresses. If a student does not met the rule, it will reflect in the class grade.
It is up to the instructor's discretion use the class grade and components as the student's final grade. Final grades are manually entered for each student in the gradebook. Many factors can determine a student's final grade. This is why final grades are not automated based off the class grade.
