Created Nov 20, 2024Instructor Guide: Accessing Past Canvas Courses
As an instructor, you have access to all the courses you've ever taught at Ramapo College on Canvas. This guide walks you through the process of locating those past courses.
Log into Canvas at https://ramapo.instructure.com/.
When a course is concluded in Canvas (i.e. when the term ends), all user enrollmentsāincluding those of teachersāare moved to the prior enrollments page. This results in a shift to read-only access to the course content. You can still view content and student submissions/grades/feedback, but you cannot edit the content. You can, however, copy the content to a sandbox course or active course and edit that version.
Note: There have been reported issues with viewing content in New Quizzes in past courses. We highly recommend that you keep copies of your questions for New Quizzes in the Item Banks.
If no students are showing in the gradebook, you may need to click on the 3 dots next to the Student Name column and click on Concluded enrollments. This should populate your gradebook again. From here, you can see past submissions and access your feedback and comments in Speedgrader.

We currently have past course from 2019/2020-now on Canvas. We will eventually plan a process of deleting courses that are >5 years old to help keep the system running quickly and smoothly for current faculty and students. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you copy content that you want to save from your past courses into a sandbox course so that you maintain a master copy of all your content. You can also export your course content by going to Settings --> Export Course Content.
If you need assistance with accessing past courses, copying content into a sandbox course, and/or exporting course content, please contact the IDC at helpdesk@rampo.edu.
