How Do I Add Captions in Panopto Videos?

Hover over the video you want to add captions to and click the Edit button.

At the top left, select the Captions tab.

Pull down the captions menu and select Import automatic captions.

You will now see the automatically generate captions along the left-hand side of the screen.

With high audio quality and clear English, these automatically generated captions will be about 80% accurate. Review the captions and edit where necessary. The captions will also lack punctuation and capitalization in many cases. You can edit each caption by clicking on the text. You can listen and watch your video as you edit the captions.

When you are finished editing your captions, click the Apply button at the top right-hand corner of the window. You may need to click Apply a second time if you made edits to the captions.

Students can now watch the video with captions.

If for any reason students can't see the captions, advise them to click on the CC button at the bottom of the video to ensure it is not hidden. They can also click the Caption tab which will show the captions to the left of the video.
