Handshake values the security of our employers and job seekers alike. We aim to instill trust in our community to use our platform with confidence, and we continuously execute policies that minimize risk to keep our users safe.


Handshake partners with Persona to validate key employer profile data and ensure that each company on Handshake is legitimate and authorized to operate and hire employees. You can read more here about our process.

Prepare for your company verification.

Please have the following information ready for automatic verification of your company:

  • Business registration number: You’ll need to provide a business registration number (e.g., BRN, EIN, TIN, or your local equivalent). Don't have a business registration number? Contact our support team (clicking the link) for further instructions.

  • Government ID: You'll need to provide a picture of your form of government ID

Prepare for your company verification.

Note: One of the most common reasons employer verifications fail is due to incorrect or mismatched business information. To avoid delays, ensure you provide the correct Employer Identification Number (EIN or TIN) and the legal business name exactly as registered with the IRS.

If you failed the verification process...

Don't fret. Our Trust and Safety team encountered a discrepancy in your information and we need to validate you manually (takes about 24-48 hours). Follow the instructions provided to you from the screen and Handshake email.

If your employer account requires additional review by our Trust and Safety team, the message 'Hang tight—further review needed. After the initial employer verification, your account requires further review by our Trust and Safety team. We'll email you once it's complete.' will appear on your screen.


The message will also provide guidance on next steps and offer the option to contact our Trust and Safety team if needed.

If your employer account cannot be verified, the message 'Contact us—your account couldn't be verified. Your company didn't pass our verification check. Please reach out to us as soon as possible.' will appear on your screen.
