Creating and Sharing a Clip from a Video Database.

A step-by-step guide to finding a video, creating a clip, and sharing that clip for use in classes and presentations.

Go to the Database A-Z List.

Click on one of the video database options.

Academic Video Online (Alexander Street) is pictured below. These same steps will work for Behavioral and Mental Health Online (Alexander Street).

Click the search bar to enter a search term or phrase.

Your search can be names of performances, topics, subjects, or influential people (e.g. "Jesus" or "Apostle Paul").

Click Enter on your keyboard, or click the magnifying glass to complete the search.

Click on the tile that has the video you want to view, show, share, or clip.

If you want more information on the video before viewing it, click the "See Details" button on the tile (circled below); this will pull up a quick view of the summary and other pertinent information about the video.

Click on "Play".

Watch the video to find out when the clip you want to share starts and stops.

Record the times in the following format: HH:MM:SS (eg. 00:04:36 to 00:05:17).

Sign into your account to continue creating a clip.

If you don't have an account yet, clicking "Sign in" will give you the option to register for a free account.

Enter a title for the clip that you want to share.

Enter a brief description of the clip.

Enter a start and end time for clip that you want to create.

Be sure to click Enter on your keyboard to save the time.

Click on the line that says "Only visible to you" and change it to "Institutional".

The video can only be shared if it is not a private video; please remember that other students, staff, and faculty can see the clips created, their titles, and their descriptions if they decide to use the same video.

Click on "Save changes".

Click the three dots on the right side of the Clip tile to produce the share menu, and click "Share".

Choose the sharing option that best suits your needs.

The database provides options for sharing with a link, embedding with a code, or sharing via LTI; the clip can now be emailed, posted in Blackboard, or otherwise sent to your appropriate audience
