This walkthrough will give a step-by-step guide on how to effectively segment employees by "Employee Class" and "Employee Sub Class" to allow for segmentation of benefit information and communications.

13 Steps
1
Add Class and Sub Class indicators in the Employee Census

The Class and Sub Class fields should segment the employee population in a meaningful way. For example, if Full Time employees have a different benefit offering than Part Time employees, differentiate them as such. You can see in the example below we have used "F/T" to indicate Full Time employees, and "P/T" to indicate Part Time employees. The same logic goes for the Sub Class. For example, if Managers should get different communications than the general employee population, you can segment them as such with the Sub Class. Using the Sub Class is not a requirement, but it may be helpful in some situations especially with a more complex employee population.

2
If you would like to differentiate the product offering by Class or Sub Class, be sure to check the "Apply Class/Sub Class" option when adding the Plan Year to the case.
3
To segment a product by Class and/or Sub Class, first click into the Provider.
4
Next, click into the product itself.
5
Within the product information, select the Class(es) and Sub Class(es) that this product should be visible to. Any Class or Sub Class of employee not selected will not be able to view this product.

Please note: all products default to show to ALL employees.

6
Segmentation can be selected for both the Class and the Sub Class.
7
Be sure to click 'Update' when you are finished with your selections.

Now that you have made these adjustments, employees will only see the applicable products under the 'My Benefit Options' tab of their employee profile.

8
Next, let's talk about segmentation of employee communications.
9
When setting up ANY communication type, you can scroll down to find the "Additional Employee Segmentation" section.
10
Here you will find the option to segment this communication by Hire Date, Employee Location, Employee Class, Employee Sub Class, and Employee State.

Although this guide is focused specifically on Class and Sub Class segmentation, keep in mind the other options here as segmentation of communications by Hire Date, Employee Location, and Employee State can be very helpful.

11
Click on the Employee Class dropdown to select which Class(es) this communication should be sent to.
12
Follow the same steps to select the appropriate Employee Sub Class(es).
13
Now your communication will be sent to the selected segmentation of the employee population!

Using the Class and Sub Class options ensures that employees get benefits information and communications that are tailored to them. It only takes a few extra minutes to help employees better understand their benefit options and in turn make the best benefit decisions for their families.
